Plantation Vintage Australia 2007 14 YO - Limited Edition

Updated: Nov 21, 2021

Here we go then. This is my first review on Rum Buccaneer, and it is my first ever Australian rum. When I started looking into this product I was somewhat surprised to learn that rum has been produced in Australia for about 150 years!

The facts

Origin : Beenleigh Artisan Distillery

Raw material : Molasses

Fermentation : 12 days (Schizosaccharomyces pombe & Saccharomyces cerevisiae)

Distillation : Pot Still

Year of Distillation : 2007

ABV: 49.3 %

Esters (g/hL AA): 166

Tropical ageing : 13 years in Bourbon casks

Continental ageing : 1 years in Ferrand casks

My tasting notes

Nose: Caramel, fudge, vanilla and a hint of funk. Ripe, tropical fruits. Deeply sweet, but in a tempered way.

Taste: Medium body. Rather dry. White pepper, bitter-ish notes of nuts and oak. Ginger, and a smidge aniseed.

Finish: Medium long finish. Vanilla. Towards the end a very earthy and vegetal note, like root vegetables straight out of the dirt.

Comment: Farmer’s delight.

Score 87/100
